A domain is registered for a fixed period, usually a year at a time. If it isn’t renewed, your website and email at that domain stop working, so renewals matter.
How renewal works
We email a renewal invoice to the address on your account before your domain’s expiry date. Pay it from your client area and the domain is renewed for another period. Your renewal price is the same as the price you registered at.
Renew early
You can renew at any time before expiry: open the domain in your client area and choose to renew. The extra time is added to your current expiry date, so you don’t lose anything by renewing early.
What if it expires?
- .uk and .co.uk: the domain stops working shortly after expiry, but there’s a grace period during which it can still be renewed. After that, it can be cancelled and released for anyone to register.
- .com and most others: the domain usually enters a grace period, then a redemption period in which recovering it costs considerably more, before it’s released.
If your domain has expired, raise a support ticket straight away. The sooner we act, the easier and cheaper it is to recover.
