DNS records are the instructions that send visitors to your website and email to your mailbox. If your domain uses Fusionhost’s nameservers, you manage them in cPanel’s Zone Editor.

The four records you’ll use most

Common DNS record types
TypeWhat it doesTypical use
APoints a name to an IP addressYour website
CNAMEPoints one name to another namewww, or a service like a shop platform
MXSays which server receives your emailYour email, or Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace
TXTHolds text that other services readSPF, DMARC, and ownership checks for Google or Microsoft

Add or change a record

  1. Log in to cPanel. You can open it from your client area (choose your hosting service, then Login to cPanel), or go to yourdomain.co.uk/cpanel.
  2. In the Domains section, open Zone Editor and click Manage next to your domain.
  3. To change a record, click Edit on its row. To add one, click + Add Record and choose the type.
  4. Enter the name and value exactly as the other service gave them to you, and click Save Record.

Changes and waiting times

Most changes work within an hour, but can take up to 48 hours to reach everyone, depending on the record’s TTL (time to live) setting.
