Domains and DNS

Connecting a domain to an external service

Connect your domain to Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Shopify or another platform by adding the DNS records they give you in cPanel.

You can keep your domain and DNS with Fusionhost and still use it with other services, such as Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace for email, or a shop platform for your online store. You connect them by adding the DNS records the service gives you.

The general process

  1. In the other service’s setup screens, add your domain. It will give you a list of DNS records to create, usually a TXT record to prove you own the domain, then some combination of MX, CNAME and A records.
  2. In cPanel, open Zone Editor and add each record exactly as given. See editing DNS records.
  3. Go back to the other service and click its Verify button. If it doesn’t verify straight away, wait an hour and try again.

Moving email to Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace?

  • Replace the existing MX records with the new service’s MX records, rather than adding them alongside.
  • Update your SPF record so it includes the new service. Remember: only one SPF record per domain. See SPF, DKIM and DMARC.
  • In cPanel, check Email Routing (under Email › Email Routing) is set to Remote Mail Exchanger, so the server knows your email lives elsewhere.
