If your website is a set of files, for example HTML pages built by a designer, you can upload it straight from your browser with cPanel’s File Manager. No extra software needed.
Where your files go
Your main domain’s website lives in the public_html folder. Whatever is in there is what visitors see. Your home page should be called index.html or index.php.
Extra domains you’ve added have their own folders, which you’ll see listed in cPanel under Domains.
Upload your files
- Log in to cPanel. You can open it from your client area (choose your hosting service, then Login to cPanel), or go to yourdomain.co.uk/cpanel.
- In the Files section, open File Manager.
- Double-click public_html to open it.
- Click Upload in the toolbar, then drag your files in or click Select File.
- When the upload reaches 100%, click the link to go back to public_html.
Uploading lots of files? Use a ZIP
Uploading one ZIP file is much faster than uploading hundreds of separate files. Zip the website on your computer, upload the ZIP to public_html, then right-click it and choose Extract. Delete the ZIP afterwards.
Prefer an FTP program?
If you use an FTP client such as FileZilla, create an FTP login in cPanel under Files › FTP Accounts, then connect using the details shown there. Choose an encrypted (FTPS) connection where your program offers it.
