Restoring your website from a backup

How Fusionhost's weekly off-site backups work and how to ask us to restore your website, a database, files or emails.

2 minute readLast reviewed 16 October 2026

Fusionhost backs up every hosting account weekly and stores the backups off-site, away from the server your website runs on. If something goes wrong, such as a failed update, a deleted file or a hacked site, we can put it back.

Ask for a restore

Raise a support ticket and tell us:

  • which domain or website it’s for
  • what you’d like restored: the whole website, a database, particular files or folders, or email
  • roughly when things were last working, so we can choose the right backup

Whole site or just part of it?

Restoring only what’s broken keeps everything else as it is now. For example, if a plugin update broke WordPress but you’ve had orders since, restoring only the website’s files keeps those orders in the database. If you’re not sure, tell us what happened and we’ll recommend the safest option.

Keep your own copy too

Because our backups are weekly, changes made since the last backup can’t be recovered from them. Before big changes, such as updating WordPress, changing themes or editing important files, make your own copy first. In cPanel, File Manager can compress a folder into a ZIP to download, and phpMyAdmin can export a database.
