Enabling your free SSL certificate

How the free SSL certificate on your Fusionhost hosting is issued and renewed automatically, and how to fix it if your site shows as not secure.

2 minute readLast reviewed 16 October 2026

An SSL certificate encrypts the connection between your website and its visitors, and puts the padlock in the address bar. Without one, browsers label your site “Not secure” and many visitors leave. Every Fusionhost hosting plan includes free SSL.

It should already be working

Certificates are issued and renewed automatically for each domain on your hosting, as soon as the domain points at your hosting. You don’t need to buy, install or renew anything.

Check your certificate

  1. Log in to cPanel. You can open it from your client area (choose your hosting service, then Login to cPanel), or go to yourdomain.co.uk/cpanel.
  2. In the Security section, open SSL/TLS Status.
  3. Look for a green padlock next to each domain and its www version.
  4. If a domain shows a problem, click Run AutoSSL to try again.

Why a certificate might fail

  • The domain doesn’t point at your hosting yet. Check its nameservers or A record. See pointing your domain.
  • The www version points somewhere else. Both yourdomain.co.uk and www.yourdomain.co.uk need to point at your hosting.
  • A CAA record blocks it. If you’ve added CAA records in DNS, they must allow the certificate provider used by cPanel.

Once the certificate is working, make sure visitors always use it by forcing HTTPS.
